A milk silo is a long-term investment — a well-chosen tank streamlines collection logistics, reduces losses and makes it easier to maintain high raw-material quality. A poorly chosen one creates unnecessary costs and operational problems. What should you look out for when choosing?

Capacity matched to your production scale

The basic question is: how much milk do you need to store between tanker collections? Too small a silo means more frequent, more expensive transport or the risk of overflow. Too large means unnecessarily frozen capital and slower milk turnover in the tank. The tank capacity calculator can help — it lets you quickly estimate the right size based on the silo’s shape and dimensions.

Margo’s own production or distributed brands

We offer both Margo-made silos, built at our facility in Ostrołęka to individual client requirements, and trusted tanks from brands we distribute on the Polish market — RO-KA, Wedholms and Mueller. It’s worth comparing both paths: a made-to-measure silo gives you more flexibility in dimensions and fittings, while a ready-made tank from a distributed brand usually means a shorter lead time.

New or used

For some farms, a used silo is a good solution — after a technical inspection and any necessary refurbishment, it can last just as long as a new one, at a significantly lower entry cost.

Material and build quality

Milk tanks are made of stainless steel — most often grade 304, and for higher hygiene requirements, grade 316 as well. Weld quality also matters, as does the finish of the interior surface (the smoother it is, the easier it is to clean), along with the solidity of the support structure and tank legs.
